Life, death and an introduction
August 18th, 2011
The five weeks went fast, in a flurry of time either at her bedside (they gave me a roll-away so I hold her hand at night) as well as taking care of her apartment. Monday, I left on the long flight back. I went right back to work (traveling east to west, chasing the sunlight has always been easy for me) getting hugs from a multitude of seniors where I work almost as soon as I came in the door.
Because accountability is an important cornerstone of Goldenboomers.com, I’ve invited Andreas Kalkowski to a part of
the GBI team. He is a pastor in a largely mixed population (culturally and age wise) suburb of Hamburg, Germany. He brings insight, humor and the ability to work with different groups of people with no judgment. I appreciate that about him and welcome him to Goldenboomers! In the near future we’ll introduce him in greater detail.
Here is what’s up…
January 29th, 2012
As some of you know, Goldenboomers.com has been static for a while….But I am happy to say that the papers have been signed, the money has changed hands and soon the website that I wanted a few years back (before the original web designers went bankrupt) will be up and running. We are debating about the exact [...]

Good-bye to a wonderful friend and Mother….
September 5th, 2011
I am fortunate as I work with seniors (with the framework of a continuing care retirement community.) It is not unusual for us to have residents who have exhausted all medical avenues (and themselves) and decide to put quality of life over medical nightmares (with little chance of success.) We had a heart to heart and she told me what she had planned….The bottom line is that it is her life and I cannot argue the point. To make matters worse is that she lives over 10, 000 km (6,200 miles) away. I can only support her decision. For her it was a question about pain. Cancer has robbed her of the peace and quiet that she lived for. Now her life is a daily battle that involves daily dressing changes, pain and greater immobilization. For a free spirit and great walker, her life has dimmed down to pain, constant reoccurring open wounds and drugs.
Would anyone of us, when faced with those choices, think any differently? I think not. Perhaps at 53, I might have considered it. But then the odds might have been more in my favour. However at almost 93 we will be faced with a different set of values.
First round goes to the spammers…
July 5th, 2011
Goldenboomers was hit by content spammers…it took a bit for me to figure it out….check their IP numbers…..Don’t make the same mistake as I did.

Calling all “Real People!”
June 22nd, 2011
We need to find “Real People” to represent our demographic. Extra work can be found many different ways. Movies are looking for “real people.” Fashion models are gracefully aging. Marketing and advertising agencies are realizing the value of the goldenboomers demographic.
The panels are installed….
May 16th, 2011
The installation of the solar panels went quicker than I thought….it is great to watch the meter run, indicating that the panels are performing as advertised.
Solar panels, here we come!
May 12th, 2011
The mounting of the solar panels on our house is about finished. Just one more day and it will be done. Then we wait for the inspection…..Solar Assist did a great job, and I am really happy with the outcome.
